Taking a Break

No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money.

~ Samuel Johnson

Just a quick word to say that I will be hanging up the keyboard for a while. I’ve been unwell with food poisoning, and although I’m up and about again, it did knock me around a bit.

Unwell

I ate virtually nothing for a full week, and although I was keeping my fluids up, a man can’t live on liquid alone. And I should know, because I gave that a bloody crack in my student days.

Eventually they had to drop a tactical nuke of antibiotics into my gut – that means I’m currently rebuilding the healthy bacteria in my stomach, and rebuilding my strength.

On top of that, I’ve just found out that the reason I can barely stand up is due to blood clots in my left leg. When it rains, it pours, right?

Let’s keep all this in context. This weekend, hospitals all over the world are full of people with ravaged lungs fighting for their lives, while I’m at home watching TV with my family.

So I’m grateful for the excellent care I’ve received so far, and well aware that others have it way worse than I. But at the same time, the truth is, this has drained my energy.  And although there’s loads I want to say about Orruk Warclans and beyond, that has to take a back seat to catching up at work.

I call this one The Stranger: if you paint left-handed, it feels like someone else is doing it

Work Challenges

Speaking of which, I’ve got shit loads on at work (which I’ve now fallen behind on), and the last thing I feel like after that is switching on the laptop on a night time.

This stuff does take a long time to sense check and format, and I’m only doing it for the love, so when something has to give it unfortunately has to be the hobby side.

Barely Playing

I’m also in the position where I’m barely playing Age of Sigmar currently, mainly because lockdown persists in Victoria. There’s hopefully light at the end of the tunnel there if we keep hitting our vaccination targets, but the reality is that there are loads of events going on all over the world every weekend right now and I don’t have that much to add to the conversation.

Finally, there’s a big buzz around MCP, and I’m hoping to get more involved in that again once restrictions ease up here. My beloved Spider Foes got a favourable rebalancing and it will be nice to play a game where I’m not in a constant state of low-key stress about Sentinels, Bow Snakes and coherency rules.

In Conclusion

So that combination of lacking energy, being busy at work, and not playing enough AOS is telling me it’s time to step back.

I’ve been hitting regular Friday posts for quite a long time now, so I’m due a break. People who follow the blog will know that I’ve taken breaks previously – I always come back, because I love the sound of my own voice too much, and this time will be no different. It’s a pause, not the end.

I still love Warhammer, and I always will, but I’ll leave you to it for a little while. See you on the other side.

  1. Feel better Pete! Long time Orruk Waaaagh brother from ATL USA. Thanks for all the excellent, cheeky commentary over the last 2 years.

If you’re ever in the states, well grab a beer.
