As 4th Ed takes flight, we’re ready to launch that special hobby challenge that we mentioned a week or two back: we’ll all be grabbing a Vanguard / Spearhead box that we’ve currently got (at least mostly) unpainted, and going on a journey to paint, model and convert our forces together with a fellow crew of hobbyists.

Today’s the official launch date for the project, which will run from 1st July to 31st August, giving people a full 2 months to work with. And the top prize is:

A new Spearhead box of your choosing!

We’ve set up a special channel in our Craichouse Discord where you can share your progress, and we’ll be sharing it with the hobby world through regular update articles here on the website every few weeks. This contest is open to all Patrons, and you’ve got all of July and August to get around it.

How It Works

As a reminder (or in case you missed the original announcement):

Step 1: If you’re not already a Plastic Craic Patron, sign up for the Patreon to get access to the Discord
Step 2: Grab an unpainted Vanguard / Spearhead Box (or similar project size, ask if unsure). Take a picture and post your first photo into the Spearhead channel on the Craichouse Discord anytime from today onward (you can still join the challenge right up until the last week of August). Note: Minis that are already assembled or primed are fine, and if you’ve painted a small handful of the models that’s OK too. But it’s a hobby challenge, so at least the majority of your force should be unpainted. If you’re not sure, let’s chat about it in the Discord – the aim here is to go on a hobby journey together.
Step 3: Paint your force from July 1st to August 31st and post your progress pictures in the Discord channel every week or so, with the intention of having the whole thing done by the end of August. That’s a 2-month window and we’ll be running hobby hangouts across these two months where people can hop in, talk shit and work on their projects together.
Step 4: No matter what you get done, remember you’ve achieved a lot! But there are prizes…

THE PRIZES

So this isn’t going to be something where some Golden Demon level painter can just show up on August 29th, smash out everything in some new age genius method and win the whole thing without breaking a sweat. If you can paint well, we’re keen to see it, but the most important part of this whole thing is COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone getting really involved in the challenge. The top prize will go to the person who can not only put some effort in to create a cool project, but also take part in progress pictures, help other people with ideas / concepts, and just exemplify what we love about the community. And if you’re taking the chance to stretch yourself by learning a new technique, let us know about it in the Discord and we’ll go on the journey together.

Lucky Dip: We’ll also have two Lucky Dip prizes (randomly picked) of a BASING FIRST AID KIT. I will be handpicking a some of my favourite basing accessories (that match the project ideally) and sending the winners a kit to level up their basing game.
