April 2025: A Month in Plastic

Buff Wagons acting as mobile portals through reality?  War Pigeons switching off tap ‘n’ go objectives?  To quote the great Flava Flav, Yeah BOY.  There’s some real passion – and a lot of novel tech – in the rolling Scourge of Ghyran updates, and hopefully the Devs can keep up that momentum. My own number one request would be an absolutely face-melting warscroll for the Big, Green Sex Machine: let’s make Gordrakk unfuckwithable.

Make Gordrakk Great Again for the First Time Ever. Art by Maximus

Stepping back a week or two, we had a lil stealth FAQ (can you even call it an FAQ when it didn’t come with a points drop for the Gnashtoof?). The Kool Boyz got a really sweet boost from the change to their faction terrain, so with a strong tailwind you can actually guarantee Fights Last:

Previously, you couldn’t add +1 to rolls that target enemy units, such as making them Fight Last. That’s actually quite impactful.

Don’t be too bold GW, you wouldn’t want to risk catapulting their win rate all the way up to [checks notes] baseline acceptable.

So welcome to our monthly roundup of what’s been going on in the game generally and the Craichouse in particular, with a hit-list of what’s been published here on the blog plus a look ahead to what’s coming up in May.

Ready? Let’s go.

Indexhammer: April ’25

We launched into April with our traditional April 1st spoof. This one flipped the dynamic around: normally you’d be trying to “get” people with these1, but the opposite happened here. There were a lot of people convinced that the pallets of free Skaventide boxes being dumped on the public had to be part of the joke in this article, but the sad reality is, that was absolutely real. Turns out that life in 2025 is just beyond parody.

Next up, Pat laments the status of Listbuilding in AOS4, articulating the ways in which the lost art has taken wind out of the game’s sails. Hopefully it’s not lost after all, and is just temporarily misplaced?

So what do you do when Listbuilding is pretty much solved? You whinge endlessly on Reddit pour your heart into the hobby side, that’s what! So in that spirit, Seanzor delivered a guide to levelling up your miniature photography:

Meanwhile our quest to find the greatest work of art in the Warhammer Fantasy canon (old and new) reached the Final Eight. These were all nominated by our Patrons, and it’s been a lot of fun – next year we might repeat the trick, but with fantasy artworks from outside of the Warhammer sphere:

Come on You Boyz in Green! Chris Riley has been smashing things up with his Bonesplitterz, and Da Boyz won’t be allowed to go out with a whimper as long as Chris has his strength. Check out his dominant list and some pointers on how he plays it right here:

And last (and in all honesty, probably least) I wrapped up the month by pontificating about how good it feels to roll Crits and have cool stuff happen. Your Patreon dollars at work, ladies and gentlemen2.

Around the Craichouse

Thank you and welcome to our latest Patrons who joined in April:

  • Tobias Roy
  • Adrian Hildebrandt
  • Jason
  • Damo Gari

We’re rapt to have your support, and we’ll keep on whipping out our keyboards and sticking out our necks to give you the best dedicated AOS coverage we possibly can. Thank you.

On the tabletop this month, our guy Zak Rockman represented Australia at Worlds, where he personally recorded an astonishing 6-0 result. Well done that man!

Within the PC community we’ve had a couple of months’ break from the Book Club now, so it could be time to fire that back up soon – a few people have been talking about their favourite Horus Heresy books recently, so we might cherry-pick one of those.

With the Global Campaign completed I’m still working hard on the commemorative poster for our participants – it’s taking a while because I’ve got as much experience with Canva as the Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig has with winning GTs, but it’s taking shape. And just for fun, Josh Clark drafted the Plastic Craic Bingo Card in April, which we should probably polish up and save as a pdf on the Patreon site. And putting it in a pdf today is as good as laminating it in the 90s3.

Team Winona all the way

Patreon articles

In addition to the articles on the main site, we published a few interesting pieces on our Patreon site in April:

So What’s Next?

Here’s what’s coming up in May:

  • Our Greatest Warhammer Art competition reaches the endgame.
  • I’ve got a detailed piece on Doom Divers that is gonna be cherry-ripe in the very near future.
  • Our Patrons nominated the coolest models with the worst rules ages ago, and Pat is currently in a race against time to get that published up before the Scourge of Ghyran rules completely banjax him.
  • Apparently Pat is also plotting something called Seven Lessons from the Seven Samurai? Nope, me neither.
  • And Zak will be writing up his experience at AOS Worlds.

Our biggest hope is to give our Patrons something worthwhile to read every week, and hopefully this program for May and beyond will deliver that for you. Our Discord is for Patreon members and writers only (No Dickheads Policy), and membership is priced at a level that everyone can afford – so if you want to join us, you know what to do.

Have a great month ahead, nerds – see you on the other side.

If you’d like to help us continue our work, we’d love to have your support. All Patreon Tiers include Discord access, exclusive articles and regular contests. Our Tiers are priced to be within everyone’s reach, so please click here to join us today!

  1. Shout out to all the people who DM’d me in 2024 to tell me that my fake Gordrakk warscroll was fake 😘 ↩︎
  2. But if it’s that obvious, maybe they should do it more? That’s all I’m saying 🤷‍♀️. ↩︎
  3. Just you wait, one day you’ll be putting out Cowboy Bebop references and the young ins will just roll their eyes. They’ll still appreciate Simpsons memes though, because some things are just unkillable. ↩︎
