I think we all knew the classic red ‘n’ yellow Games Workshop logo would go one day – it’s not like you see it in action a lot, tucked away there on the back of boxes as the Warhammer branding is pushed to the front. Whenever the axe did swing though, it was always gonna feel like a jolt: it’s not like this was an objectively well-designed logo last week, last month, last year or even 10 years ago. But that’s why we loved it. The whole charm of this slightly ramshackle and craptacular design was its links to the early days of GW and their DIY ethos, and the memories we all have of a time when the hobby felt a lot different.

I know they’ll have their reasons, and I don’t care. It’s not my job to care. As a fan of Warhammer I don’t need to go out to bat for the corporate side – all I can really do is speak from the heart, and say that it’s a damned shame. And on the basis that a picture is worth a thousand words, I’ll let Maddie on Bluesky have the final 1000 words on the matter.

So welcome to our monthly roundup for July where we’ll take a look at what’s been going on in the world of AOS in general and here at Plastic Craic in particular, with an index to the articles we’ve published, a catchup on the community side and a bunch of empty promises look ahead to what we aim to will publish in August.
And what else was going on in July? I’ll give the whole Horus Heresy debate a wide berth because I personally wouldn’t have a bloody clue whether or not it’s a commercial and artistic failure, and I’m certainly not going to parrot some second-hand garbage from the soulless click-famers that YouTube is plastering all over my feed. But just like you, dear reader, I’ve got all the opinions on AOS and I bloody loved the Chaos Dwarf reveals.

As an ageing wargamer scanning the horizon, I’ve been bracing myself for the inevitable drift towards Historical wargaming1; but while I’m still waiting for that, becoming a booster for a non-Destro faction in AOS was a plot twist that took me by surprise.
It does seem like I’m maybe in somewhat of a minority on this one? There’s been a lot of negative talk about this reveal and it’s hard to separate the signal from the noise, but I reckon that when push comes to shove the Helsmiths will sell pretty well and you’ll see lot of them about. I’m particularly keen on the troops and the warmachines – which really are the heartbeat of the army. I’m not gonna do an army, but I definitely would, and if this is your release: I hope you have a blast.
We’ll launch into the index of articles, but first: we’ve got a new team member and ongoing series to introduce!
Meet Orkmann

Peter Kreitl, known on the socials as ORKMANN, is going to be our TTS specialist moving forward. As a hardcore IRL player myself, I’m not plugged into that world at all, so I see tremendous value in a monthly (ish) article to catch the rest of us up on what’s happening in TTS.
The big advantage of TTS is that the substantial physical barriers to getting a new list on the table are stripped right back. You don’t have to paint 200 Clanrats, or buy 20 Gitmob chariots that leave you brutally exposed to any future nerf, in order to give it a try. So TTS can really help us to see around corners:
- What’s been winning on TTS that could be seen at your local GT in the near future
- What solutions people have found to tackle builds that are bullying the meta
- Whether certain spam / meme lists are actually a thing (since they can hit the table there so much quicker and cheaper)
- Which lists or meta developments might be relevant only to TTS vs which might have more relevance on the physical tabletop
Another advantage of TTS is that it’s a practical way for top players around the world to test themselves against each other, and Peter certainly has a lot of experience in that space:

I’ll hand you over to Peter K to introduce himself:
A man with impeccable timing, I started playing AoS in early 2020, just before COVID hit. From the beginning, it was clear to me that the wargaming aspect of the hobby was what excited me the most, so I had to find some way to scratch that itch — and I very quickly got involved in the international TTS community. Initially, I had some reservations about playing on TTS, but it turned out to be an amazing decision, as I got to meet a lot of people whom I can now call my friends.
Grinding games on TTS surprisingly opened doors to real-life tournaments as well. In 2022, I was asked to join Team Australia at the Worlds in Prague as a mercenary. My home country, Hungary, has too small of an AoS community to field a Worlds team, so I was happy to accept the honour — and I’ve been around the team ever since. In 2026, I’ll be serving the team as an Assistant Coach — which is totally not just a fancy name for a Glorified Water Boi!
Welcome aboard mate.
Indexhammer: July ’25
First up, we launched our collaboration with Woehammer to design warscrolls for some fan-favourite characters that deserve to be seen on the tabletop:
Pat wrote up his Ogors list that he took to the OCC event in Melbourne:
I pontificated reflected upon the new GHB battle tactics from a game design viewpoint. I’m very keen on how these have been crafted for a couple of specific reasons:
You might know The Aussie Wargamer from his hobby-focused YouTube channel, and in June he wrote his first article for the site! This was a reflective article aimed at helping us all to enjoy our hobby, and Aussie has more similar pieces in the pipeline:
In my own space, I did a pretty comprehensive run through the history of my beloved Savage Orruks in Age of Sigmar. I played them all the way from 1st Edition to the bitter end, so here’s a tour through the highs and lows:
Around the Craichouse
Thank you and welcome to our latest Patron Trevor Moffat! We’re rapt to have your support, and we’ll keep working hard to give you the best dedicated AOS coverage we possibly can.
————————————————————————
We have a hobby contest! A lot of people are making little tokens to use as Ghyranite Treasures for the Intercept and Recover battle tactic. So we’ve got a contest open to all Patrons through to the end of August: show us your little kitbashed treasures, and we’ll do a prize for our favourites. I might do mine Bonesplitterz themed2, like maybe each Treasure is a Savage Orruk holding some human heads on a spike. Be nice to see the good guys get a win.
————————————————————————
As per the link above, we’ve launched a joint project with Woehammer to write appropriate Warscrolls for the unique characters you most want to see in AOS. We’ve started working on these together in the PC Discord, see keep an eye out for their release in the near future.
Patreon articles
We publish regular articles on the Patreon site to try and support the people who support us. A few highlights from July were:
- Our first crack at a Warscroll for the homebrew Gotrek and Felix Regiment of Renown warscroll.
- We started floating some ideas for Khorgos Khul in that sphere
- Initial reflections on the Chaos Dwarf reveals
So What’s Next?
Here’s a few things that you can look forward to in August 2025:
- Remember that Doom Diver thing I said I would do ages ago? We’re on the vinegar strokes now, I promise you.
- I’ll write up Part Two of the Farewell to Bonesplitterz, focusing on the future and how you can continue to represent Da Boyz.
- Peter Kreitl will have his first regular TTS roundup for you.
- On the Patreon site: I’ve been back in touch with the creator, so we’ll follow up our piece on The Lost Wargame with the full rules document.
Our biggest hope is to give our Patrons something worthwhile to read every week, and hopefully this program for August and beyond will deliver that for you. Our Discord is for Patreon members and writers only (No Dickheads Policy), and membership is priced at a level that everyone can afford – so if you want to join us, you know what to do.
Have a great month, nerds – see you on the other side.

If you’d like to help us continue our work, we’d love to have your support. All Patreon Tiers include Discord access, exclusive articles and regular contests. Our Tiers are priced to be within everyone’s reach, so please click here to join us today!

- When the time does come to give up on trying to achieve anything notable in competitive wargaming, it’s a straight choice between taking up Historicals and buying a DOK army. Both effectively mean chucking in the towel. ↩︎
- Quelle surprise. ↩︎
Postscript: Historicals
When I do eventually drift over to Historicals, it’ll be naval battles. I can see myself there in my garage, rocking a brass extendable telescope and an Admiral’s hat, with a glass of rum in one hand and a dense rulebook full of pedantic, intricate tables in the other. Heaven.
