Can’t Be FAQ’d? We’ve Got You 🫶

A sneaky little FAQ slipped in overnight, and if you can’t be FAQ’d scanning through a 65-page pdf for the occasional golden nugget, don’t worry. I already Ctrl+F’d the shit out of it, so here’s what you need to know.

There’s two broad categories of FAQ this time around:

  • Clarifications and shut-downs of attempted pedantry that are probably in line with how you were already playing it.
  • Some actual changes to Khorne, the spooky ghosts and vampires.

The weekend’s almost here, so pour yourself a Battle Brew and let’s rattle through it together.

Core Rules

I mean, hats off to whoever tried that one. As a partially reformed gamey cunt edge runner myself, I admire your chutzpah. Come on though.

Hey look, it’s a philosophical one! I love those1. Rule 7.0 states that combat range extends 3″ in every direction, and that if you are within 3″ you are in combat. I don’t see how anyone could sincerely believe that starting 0″ away and moving exactly 3″ away leaves you within 3″, and that’s before we get into quantum physics and what it means for two objects to even be in contact at a subatomic level2. Fuck sake. Moving on.

I did wonder about this one myself back when they first slapped +10 points on SOB’s good artefacts, but as was pointed out to me at the time, you only pay points during list building. A worthwhile clarification though, because I reckon a few people would have wanted to know, and Sons certainly didn’t need an unfavourable FAQ3.

Dead last. Source: Woehammer

The generic “Points builder” prayer. Another one where people were probably already playing it this way, but another worthwhile clarification nonetheless. This one has a chanting value, which means that it will count as a successful chant for any knock-on effects.

That last part is important too. By following the steps in Rule 3.0 you could have had a weird little doom loop where you would add the ritual points and reset them to 0 straight away, but this FAQ nips that in the bud:

This FAQ stops that last clause resetting your points to 0 and making the whole thing pointless. All rules credit GW

Faction Changes

The ghosts caught a break with their Soggy artefact, so the target does not need to be visible:

No more hiding behind, or indeed in front, terrain

This one is only Spearhead, but the damage part is new:

Next up, SBGL got a favourable FAQ for the horse dude. That part about “even if this unit has been destroyed” is new, so I guess we now have clarity that “for the rest of the battle” means exactly that:

And last and most certainly least, Khorne copped a small nerf:

This one did not previously stipulate that the quarry needs to be on the table, so it got a bit harder to use. It arguably does make sense thematically that they’re pursuing their prey, but given that you don’t actually have to teleport towards them that’s debatable. As my dear friend Pat pointed out to me: nothing major, just another little bit of Christmas cheer brought into the lives of Khorne players4.

Pitched Battle Profiles: Ooh! Some green!

Don’t get too excited, it’s just base sizes and stuff like that. No points changes.

We’ve got IDK:

Trees:

Rats:

And lizards:

Anything else?

Yup, the Regiments of Renown have been updated so that Helsmiths of Hashut can take all the ones you’d expect. As it should be.

My own picks for them would be the Nurglings at 180 points (to pin shit in place while your artillery blasts away), or the Stumblefoot Gargant at 140 points (because it’s fairly cheap access to -1 to hit in an army where points are tight). The trouble is that at their points, those RORs find themselves in direct competition with another Cav unit and more rockets respectively.

Eh, they’re there if you want ’em.

So that’s a wrap! Hopefully we saved a few people the misery of pinch-zooming through massive documents on their phones. The impact of the faction rules chanes is minor but all in all this a neat little FAQ, shutting down some attempted nonsense and giving clarity.

Have a good weekend, nerds – see you on the other side.

  1. Schrodinger’s Ogor was my favourite. Boy, was that some bullshit. ↩︎
  2. Argue about it over here if you must. ↩︎
  3. Dead last in the win rates, yikes. I reckon King Brodd’s Stomp has plenty of play though. ↩︎
  4. We miss you, big fella. ↩︎

  1. One thing you missed about sacred rites, they’ve changed the effect to be the unmodified roll rather than the chanting value.

That is a big nerf. It means bonuses to pray don’t get banked by that prayer. It also means counter pray doesn’t give you -1 points anymore, but also that it fails on a 2 without any banked points.

Strangely, they didn’t change this wording for resolving any other prayer effects. So chanting one of your limited prayers still lets you bank them based on the chanting value and not the unmodified roll.

I’m guessing another faq is coming for that soon.
