So having celebrated, whinged, honoured and remembered the history of Bonesplitterz in Age of Sigmar a little while back, the question is what do we do next? If you’ve already sold your Splitterz and moved on, I don’t blame you, but I’ve shaded way too many green arsecracks to just shove the Ladz in a box and forget about them. And I have far too many memories wrapped up in this army to shift them on to some flog on FB Marketplace for pennies on the dollar.
I’ve got a few ideas for how you can keep the green flame burning, so let’s take a look, and let me know what you’ll be doing too. We’ll start off with small ways to rep the Ladz in your other armies, and scale it up from there.
Ready? Let’s go.
Proxyhammer
The first and most obvious way to keep using your minis is to simply proxy them for a current warscroll. For example you could easily use a Wurrgog Prophet as a Weirdnob if you stick him onto a 40mm base:

And one way you can bulk-mobilize your collection is by taking your Savage Orruks: congratulations, you now own a stack of fully-painted, Savage-themed Ardboyz. So you’d be using your two-wound Orruk troops with combat weapons as two-wound Orruk troops with combat weapons. Worth noting that this kind of proxying is officially sanctioned by GW:

So if anyone tries to tell you it’s not Kosher, they can suck a green dick1. Same goes for Arrow Boys as Savage-themed Boltboyz in your Kruleboyz.
Another great example is using Savage Orruks as Monsta Killaz in your Kruleboyz:

The official MK kit is sexy but also ludicrously expensive in dollar terms. These are Orruks that specialise in hunting Monsters, and guess what? GW has already sold me a bunch of Orruks that specialise in hunting Monsters, and I’ll be dead and in my grave before I’ll pay the fuckers hundreds more dollars for another iteration of that.
GW has always been too lazy to give the war baboons in that unit any actual rules, so there’s no point in even doing special conversions for them, unless you fancy the hobby opportunity. In my own case, I did fancy that opportunity – so I converted up the baboons as Were-boars, which doubles as a nod to the classic Bonesplitterz spell.

I added various monster trophy bling to mine but all you really need is one dude on a 40mm base to be the unit champ, and a lil Grot on a 25mm too. Shouldn’t be too hard to muster.
Side note: Don’t be a lazy cunt
FWIW I totally agree with GW’s statement that it should in all cases be completely obvious what you’re using them for – nothing boils my piss quite like playing against some lazy asshole with a confusing proxy army, so if you’re going to do this, make sure there’s no ambiguity about what’s what.
For example, blocks of Savage Orruks on their 32mm bases as Ardboyz alongside your regulation Brutes and Pigs would be in no way confusing, but I’d suggest that if you’re also putting some Ladz in as Brutes (e.g. reposed Big Stabbas), make sure they’re visibly larger and on the correct 40mm bases. That shouldn’t be hard to achieve, so please don’t dump the mental load on your opponent.
Fold them into other armies
Taking one step up the ladder (beyond saying “These Savage Orruks are now Ardboyz”) you could carry out some conversion work to fold Da Boyz into other armies – giving yourself a little hobby challenge.
One simple way I’ve done this is to have Bonesplitterz riding on the Big Pig instead of the factory-standard Ardboyz:

I’m also making some Gitmob chariots from upcycled Boarboys. I’ve got a couple of these now, cobbled together from Boyz ‘n’ Bitz:

They should go nicely alongside my big chariot pulled by a full team of pigs, which I have been using as Kragnos on their 130mm base:

Regiments of Renown
An ROR is a great way to get some Bonesplitterz representation going, because you can re-use those models across multiple armies. I wrote a whole piece a while back on scratch-building a Killbow, which you can slot straight into Kruleboyz or use as the starting point for Big Grikk’s ROR:

I also built a Bonesplitterz-themed Stumblefoot Gargant, adding some Monster bling and making use of the iconic Big Stabba:

Use them in other games
If you want to keep using your Bonesplitterz, but you’re not motivated to have them count as something else in AOS, there’s a couple of good options that I can see.
The Old World
I’m not going to claim to be the expert here – rank and flank is not my thing – but my understanding is that Savage Orcs continue to be a thing there. Your Warpaint is a paid-for upgrade that makes Greenskinz into bigger and better Savages. Check with a TOW guy though, it’s just not my area of expertise. Worst case scenario I guess you could just use them as orc boys though.
40K
I reckon this is worth serious consideration. Savage Orruks have always existed there as Snakebitez, and then a few years ago they made the Beast Snagga Boyz:

They’re savage-themed and they hunt monsters, what more do you want?
Glue a gun in their hand, and badda bing, you’ve got yourself a Beast Snagga Boy. Or a Snakebitez Boy. I’m not your dad.
We start with a Savage Orruk boy:

Take off his hands – and note that the wrists even have similar decoration:

And easy as that, we’ve got ourselves a 40K Ork Boy:

Players of these games are also your main target market if you do decide to sell your Ladz, by the way. If I was offloading mine, I’d probably go after the 40K crowd, because it’s a way bigger and more liquid market.
Proxyhammer: Go Nuculah?
I have heard ideas floating around for using your Splitterz as different armies entirely: either Fyreslayers or IDK were the ones I’ve seen suggested. Your Ladz can represent 32mm base infantry quite easily, they have Cavalry, then it’s what you want to do for the centrepiece models that Bonesplitterz never really got.
I showed you above how I made a big chariot pulled by a full team of Boars – I always thought that would be a cool centrepiece for Bonesplitterz and since they never got any mode releases, I just made my own. That’s on the same base as a Leviadon for example. This isn’t a path I’m going down myself, but I have heard chatter about it from other people. Food for thought.
Bonesplitterz Conversion Showcase: Martin Croucher
We’ll wrap this up with a showcase of a breathtaking Bonesplitterz project from Martin Croucher, who you can find on bluesky right here. Martin’s really pulled out all the stops on this army, which is a mixture of plastic and prints – hacked together from multiple different sculpts, chopped up and kitbashed back together.
It’s a Savage-themed Ironjawz army and it really is magnificent stuff. Well done mate 👏

So that’s a wrap! Hopefully that’s given you a few ideas for how you can keep the green flag flying high. This army is way too cool to spend eternity at the back of a cupboard, so please share any ideas you have or projects you’ve undertaken to get em back where they belong – on the table.
Catch you soon.
