October Listbuilding Challenge: Beasthammer Mode

Living well is the best revenge

~ George Herbert, 1640

Well I didn’t think that recent Battlescroll was particularly kind to my beloved Ogors, but before I could make a dick of myself by having a whinge about all my favourite units lurching up in points, the LVO results came along and put the whole thing into perspective.

Your winning list with a lazy 8-0…

…and representing three of the Top 8 bracket:

Of the three Ogor lists, only Christopher Parten ran MSU Gorgers. Lewis Sloan ran an Ogors Efficient Things list similar to my own (winning back the points hike by not taking Redd), while Ian McAleese ran a mixed bag of lollies. You can see both lists in the Appendix at the end of the article and both notably contain the Bloodpelt + 10 Hunters “Drop and Bang” package.

The internal balance in this book was all over the shop at launch: it was clear as day that you were gonna see more Gluttons than Ironguts and that Redd would see a lot of play in an army that can’t use its own Battle Trait without him. It’s shaping up to be a competitive army even after these changes – encouragingly, with or without the units that most of us initially gravitated towards – but I do suspect we’ll need to see much bolder moves with the points on both styles of rhino before they start hitting the top tables in earnest.

-10 points on Morga and the Tyrant on Glutthorn? Eh, wake me up when they’ve knocked off another 40
+10 on Maw-cult Fanatics felt pretty harsh when it has a 51% win rate?
Looking beyond the results of one event, Ogors are at the top end of the sweet spot so far, and the only Destro army rocking 50%+. Source: Those eggheads at Woehammer

Opportunity Knocks

So they’ve smacked the units I was spamming and I’ve had my little cry about it. If the best revenge is living well, what opportunities are opened up by these points adjustments? You can tweak your list a little bit and keep leaning into Gluttons and Hunters, maybe with Redd making way, or you can emulate Christopher’s approach with MSU Gorgers.

The third thing we can do is embrace the good news that was wrapped up in these changes: Grell coming down was a welcome surprise (that’s a heavyweight warscroll) and in particular, -20 points on Maulbeast Raiders is really sweet. They’re a damn good unit at the points, and so we finally get to the point of today’s article: our trademark Listbuilding Challenge.

October 2026 Listbuilding Challenge: Braggoth’s Beasthammer is Back! (Kinda)

Longbeards will remember Braggoth from the 1st Edition Beastclaw tome, when it was a fan-favourite Warscroll Battalion allowing you to bring some Gore Gruntas into your BCR list:

Braggoth himself is pretty cool in the fluff: he’s the leader of the iconic Svard Alfrostun (Boulderhead Tribe), and he has actually been around since the Age of Myth1. That Battalion was popular because it let you smoosh together Monster Trucks with Ironjawz pigs, and if that doesn’t sound like a good time, you’ve come to the wrong place.

The Challenge

You can actually get pretty close to that in spirit in modern AOS by bringing the Big Pigs ROR into your Ogors list, and that’s rarely a bad thing. They’re good, mobile units with access to Strike Last.

So what I’m asking you to do is write your best list under the following criteria:

  • Ogors Mawtribes list, any Battle Formation you like
  • Must contain Da Hurtlin’ Hogz Regiment of Renown
  • Whole army must be mounted
  • Must contain at least one non-Unique hero to count as Braggoth

Note that it doesn’t necessarily have to be a Frostlord as such: I’m happy to suspend belief a little and allow a Huskard to represent Braggoth here. We can just say he’s found religion. You’re obviously welcome to include a Frosty if you want to, though.

I reckon it’s a great time to look at this build with the Raiders coming down in points a little. There are obviously compromises involved in making a heavily-themed list so while this might not end up being a podium list, I reckon we should be able to cook up something thematic that’s quite good: show me what you can cook up and we’ll showcase the best entries at the end of the month.

Prizes will be:

  • One month of free Patreon access (whether or not you’re a current member)
  • Your name on the Honours Board in perpetuity, reflecting the unimaginable prestige of being a winner
  • The opportunity to set next month’s Listbuilding challenge, if so you wish (strictly optional)

There’s been some damn good players who’ve won these Challenges over the years, so if you’d like to join them, email me your list at PlasticCraicAOS@outlook.com or get into my DMs on the various socials. I’m not hard to find.

Some big names on there tbf
