October Listbuilding Challenge: Beasthammer Mode

Living well is the best revenge

~ George Herbert, 1640

Well that Battlescroll update wasn’t particularly kind to my beloved Ogors, was it now? The internal balance in this book was all over the shop: it was always clear as day that you were gonna see more Gluttons than Ironguts and that Redd would see a lot of play in an army that can’t use its own Battle Trait without him. But I’ve got a really fundamental problem with the approach they took here, which was nerfing all the popular units instead of lifting up the ones they undercooked.

Don’t be fooled by that green, it’s irrelevant. -10 points on Morga is a joke: wake me up when they’ve knocked off another 50
Fun fact: Maw-cult Fanatics has a 51% win rate. By their own standards, nerfing that formation was objectively the wrong thing to do

There was no evidence that this army was overperforming: they were tracking at 50% win rate, and that’s with the same units being taken all the time. What that should tell you is that all those other units that aren’t seeing play need lifting up: if the best and most efficient stuff is bang on target (which it was), then everything that’s worse than that is below par by definition.

But regardless of what the question is, you can rely on GW’s answer to be “Take a shit on Destruction”. They’ve done it before and they’ll do it again.

Ermagurd you’re salty!

Damn right I’m salty, I’m pretty fucken jack of my favourite armies getting the treatment from GW. They’ve been crapping on Destruction consistently from 1st Edition onwards, so what are we gonna do about it? Well the best revenge is living well, and in Warhammer terms, that means winning a lot of games against the headwinds. And I can say with my hand on my heart that all the Craicheads win way more games with these armies than we have any right to.

I can also confirm that getting it off your chest by acting like a snarky little cunt on the internet helps a bit too.

The third thing we can do is embrace the good news that was wrapped up in these changes: Grell coming down was a welcome surprise (that’s a heavyweight warscroll) and in particular, -20 points on Maulbeast Raiders is pretty durn sweet. They’re a damn good unit at the points. So with that rant over, we finally get to the point of today’s article: our trademark Listbuilding Challenge.

October 2026 Listbuilding Challenge: Braggoth’s Beasthammer is Back! (Kinda)

Longbeards will remember Braggoth from the 1st Edition Beastclaw tome, when it was a fan-favourite Warscroll Battalion:

From the 1st Ed BCR book. Credit: GW

Braggoth himself is pretty cool in the fluff: he’s the leader of the iconic Svard Alfrostun (Boulderhead Tribe), and he has actually been around since the Age of Myth1. That Battalion was popular because it let you smoosh together Monster Trucks with Ironjawz, and if that doesn’t sound like a good time, you’re playing the wrong game.

The Challenge

The closest thing you can get today is bringing the Big Pigs ROR into your Ogors list, and that’s rarely a bad thing. They’re good, mobile units with access to Strike Last.

So what I’m asking you to do is write your best list under the following criteria:

  • Ogors Mawtribes list, any Battle Formation you like
  • Must contain Da Hurtlin’ Hogz Regiment of Renown
  • Whole army must be mounted
  • Must contain at least one non-Unique hero to count as Braggoth

Note that it doesn’t necessarily have to be a Frostlord as such: I’m happy to suspend belief a little and allow a Huskard to represent Braggoth here. We can just say he’s found religion. You’re obviously welcome to include a Frosty if you want though.

It might not be a podium list, but we’re trying to build a themed list that’s quite good: I reckon it’s a good time to look at this build with the Raiders coming down in points a little. Show me what you can cook up and we’ll showcase the best entries at the end of the month. Prizes will be:

  • One month of free Patreon access
  • The unimaginable kudos and prestige of being a winner
  • The opportunity to set the next challenge, if you wish

When I get a moment I’ll put together a roster of all our previous winners, like one of those perpetual trophies, so you’ll be a founder member of that too. There’s been some damn good players who’ve won these Challenges over the years, so if you’d like to join them, email me your list at PlasticCraicAOS@outlook.com or get into my DMs on the various socials. I’m not hard to find.

If you’d like to help us continue our work, we’d love to have your support. All Patreon Tiers include Discord access, exclusive articles and regular contests. Our Tiers are priced to be within everyone’s reach, so please click here to join us today!
